Band Camp 2012 is Underway

Aug 23, 2012 · Published in Announcements

It’s that time again. Band camp and the start of the 2012 season are underway. We’re hard at work memorizing music, learning drill, and putting together another great show. All percussionists reported this morning for the start of camp. It’s an intense 10 days of learning, memorizing, and perfecting.

Percussion Feature — Boogie Wonderland

This year’s feature is Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind & Fire. It’s a 1979 disco-funk classic recently made famous again by the movie Happy Feet. As always, the arrangement by Thom Hannum is second to none. You can download the charts from our Music page and play along.

Other 2012 Productions

  • Firebird — A 1910 ballet created by the composer Igor Stravinsky, based on Russian folk tales of the magical glowing bird that is both a blessing and a curse to its captor.
  • Jai Ho — From the 2008 soundtrack to Slumdog Millionaire, Jai Ho is a celebration. Its name is a Hindi phrase meaning “may there be victory.”
  • All Night Long ― A hit single by Lionel Richie from 1983, it combined a soulful style with Caribbean influences.
